There are a wide range of funds available. In choosing between them you may want to use the services of a qualified financial adviser.  The following explains some of the different types of investment fund in which you can invest.

I want to find out more about a fund?

You should be given a "key features document" or "simplified prospectus" before you buy, which will give you more information about the fund, including the investment objective, the cost and other useful information.  

To summarise, getting the right mix of assets should be your first decision and it is a good idea to diversify the types of fund you invest in.

The Investment Management Association classifies investment funds with similar objectives into sectors to help you to compare like with like. Click here for sectors which are currently in use.  For further information on investment funds, the IMA provides a "Find a Fund" web service which lists charges, contribution levels and income frequency for investment funds.
