This is the UK's national fraud reporting centre and has lots of information on how to protect yourself against fraud.
CIFAS
CIFAS is solely dedicated to the prevention of financial crime. They run 'Protective Registration' which allows individuals whose identity has been stolen to seek a higher level of protection.
FSA

Money Advice Service
Financial Service Authority's online consumer pages has a help section on the type of "scams" to look out for.
NFA
The National Fraud Authority coordinates activity across the whole economy to make the UK a hostile environment for fraudsters.
Proving your identity
The FSA publishes a consumer factsheet explaining why you might be asked to prove your identity, and the type of information and documents you might need to supply.
