Training

Welcome to IMA's training pages, where you will find information about our industry induction courses and be able to access the latest information on careers and qualifications in the sector.

Our Aims

  • To encourage higher standards of training and professional development amongst members of IMA and the UK investment management industry in general, including advisers.
  • To improve members' awareness, understanding and application of new regulations and changes in operations or tax affecting the industry.
  • To establish good practice and to identify collective solutions to future training needs.
  • To improve policy makers' and other interested parties' (service providers, solicitors, consultants) understanding of how the investment management industry works.

Improving Qualifications & Standards

We work with the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) and the CFA Society of the UK (CFA UK) on qualifications developments, and members attend syllabus panels.

We also work with the Financial Skills Partnership (FSP) regarding skills and careers guidance for our sector.

We work with the Personal Finance Society (PFS), Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) and the CISI on investment qualifications and CPD.

IMA Courses

We provide two 2-day courses, on what makes the industry tick: one covers an understanding of the business of retail fund management companies; the other aims to provide delegates with an understanding of the UK institutional marketplace.

In addition we have one day courses on Risk Management and Approved Persons.  All our courses have been developed specifically for the investment management sector and are available to both members and non-members.
